About the Event

An online Breathwork Masterclass for supporting life, dying and letting go

Whether you are facing your own mortality, sitting bedside with someone you love, or walking into hospital rooms every day as part of your work, conscious breathing offers something rare in the landscape of dying: a sense of agency, in a time that so often strips it away.

Who This Is For?

  • Those who are dying, seeking a way to meet end of life with more ease

  • Family and friends, who want a way to be present that isn't helpless

  • Carers and care workers, looking for tools to offer comfort beyond words, and to protect their own nervous systems from burnout and grief overload

  • Medical and hospice professionals, who want an evidence-informed, embodied practice to bring into clinical and compassionate care

Breath as Companion, Not Cure: Conscious breathing won't undo the diagnosis or reverse the prognosis. What it can do is change our relationship to what's happening - softening the grip of fear and resistance and making space for presence instead.

Connecting to the Body Again: Illness and dying can make the body feel like foreign territory - something happening to you rather than a home you inhabit. Gentle breath awareness offers a way back into the body, on the body's own terms, without force.

Personal Experience: We'll create space to share what dying, caring, and witnessing have actually taught us - because lived experience, spoken aloud, is often as healing as any technique.

In a season of life defined by loss of control, conscious breathing hands a measure of it back.

No prior breathwork experience required.

This masterclass offers complementary, supportive practices and is not a substitute for medical, psychological, or spiritual care. Participants are encouraged to continue working alongside their existing care team.

Your facilitators:

In a world where disconnection has become commonplace, cultivating a relationship with the breath offers a powerful remedy to the effects of this separation.

Gila Sowter, an Occupational Therapist with 20 years of experience, is also an Advanced Breathwork Practitioner, Yoga Teacher, Energy Healer, and Himalayan Sound Healer. Breathwork has become the golden thread uniting all facets of her practice, allowing her to co-create spaces of reconnection and healing with clients—both individually and in groups.

She brings breathwork into Palliative Care not only to ease the physical challenges of life-limiting illness but also to support clients and their loved ones in meeting each day with greater presence and embodiment. Expanding the role of breath within Palliative Care and Medicine is central to Gila’s vision and her evolving path in the world of breathwork.

Marj Murray is the Managing Director of Breathwork Africa and a Certified Breathwork Practitioner who has been working with conscious breathing for the last eight years.

Having come from a corporate background, Marj has a passion for offering corporate talks and breathwork experiences that are grounded, scientific and support employee wellness. Working with children and their families is one of Marj’s specialisations to empower families with impactful breathing practices to support focus, reduce anxiety, credit social cohesion, improve confidence, and have fun.

Marj has experienced the impact of breathwork through grief, depression and anxiety enabling her to live a life free of medication and engage with others on a deeply grounded and supportive level. Although Marj’s initial training and career was as a journalist and in corporate communication, she diversified into people-centred work and is qualified Neuro Linguistic Programming Coach and Meaning-Centred Counselling working with the framework of Logotherapy.
